Baseball Recap: Kofa Gets the Win

It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Kofa ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past the Red Mountain Mountain Lions 7-6. This was payback for the Kings, who suffered a 9-4 defeat the last time these two teams met.

Kofa got a great performance from Ernesto Hernandez as he pitched six innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off six hits. The dominant performance also gave Hernandez a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, Kofa let Ryan Rosas and Daniel Zazueta run wild. Rosas scored two runs while going 4-for-4, while Zazueta went 3-for-5 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Kofa is undefeated when Rosas posts two or more runs, but 3-7 otherwise. Ozzie Ortiz was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Kofa kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are 4-1 when they post 11 or more hits.

Kofa now has a winning record of 8-7. As for Red Mountain, their loss ended a seven-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Kofa will take on San Luis at 3:45 p.m. on Tuesday. The Kings are facing the Sidewinders at the right time seeing as the Sidewinders are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Red Mountain, they will challenge Skyline at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
