About the only thing Brooke Yanez did not do this season for the unbeaten Buena (Ventura) softball team was drive the team bus to away games.

Yanez was 19-0 with 214 strikeouts in 126 innings and a 0.58 ERA in leading Buena to a 27-0-1 season and the California Interscholastic Federation Southern Section D4 title. She allowed two hits and no runs in her final three games and struck out 36. She tossed a no-hitter with 12 strikeouts in the title-game victory.

Opponents batted .110 against Yanez and she allowed one home run. In 22 pitching appearances, she allowed 11 runs.

Yanez was named to the MaxPreps Medium Schools All-American first team, and the Ventura County Star's Player of the Year, has signed with California-Davis. She was also named the CIF Southern Section D4 Player of the Year.



She batted .397 with 11 homers and 33 RBIs, and in her final eight games, she had 12 hits, scored 11 times and drove in 14 runs.

From April 18 to April 28, she homered in six-straight games. During that span, she was 14-for-21 with nine home runs, 17 RBIs and 12 runs scored.

MaxPreps 2017 California Medium Schools Coach of the Year — JJ Vaivao, Buena

Vaivao guided Buena to an unbeaten season (27-0-1), where the Bulldogs capped the season on a 23-game win streak and a CIFSS D-4 title. The only blemish was a 1-all tie with Rio Mesa (26-3). The Bulldogs outscored their opponents 209-18. They pitched 17 shutouts and only allowed two or more runs three times. The team batted .375 with a .410 on-base percentage. And impressively, committed 21 errors in 28 games.

P — Jessica Seely, Foothill (Palo Cedro), Sr.
Seely pitches (24-2 with a 0.36 ERA and 289 strikeouts in 174 innings) and hits (.545 batting average, 14 homers and 54 RBIs). The result: Foothill won the Northern Section D3 title. Seely, the section MVP, has signed with Sacramento State.

P — Autumn Pease, Murrieta Mesa (Murrieta), Jr.
Pease was the Southern Section D3 Player of the Year. The Rams' ace won 22 games and led her team to the D3 championship over Hart (Newhall). She totaled 257 strikeouts with a 1.26 ERA.

P — McKenna Gregory, Benicia, Sr.
Gregory was stellar in the circle at 19-2, 1.14 ERA and had 204 strikeouts in 134 innings. She also batted .463 with nine homers, nine doubles and 41 RBIs as Benicia went 29-2 and won the Sac-Joaquin Section D3 title. Gregory, who has signed with Michigan State, won her final 17 games in the circle. She had 10 hits and 10 RBIs in five postseason games.

P — Vanessa Gonzalez, Notre Dame (Salinas), Jr.
A three-time member of the All-County team, Gonzalez won 22 games with a 4-0 record in the postseason as Notre Dame won the Central Coast D2 title. The junior hurler posted a 2.05 ERA, with 175 strikeouts in 170 innings. In three years at Notre Dame, Gonzalez won 64 games.

P — Callie Nunes, Ceres, Sr.
Nunes was chosen the Modesto Bee's All-District Player of the Year after she posted a 20-3 record with 291 strikeouts in 147 innings. She allowed just 48 hits on the season, and the Concordia-Irvine signee finished with a 0.52 ERA.

P — Madison Papenhausen, San Marin (Novato), Fr.
Papenhausen was 15-2 with a 1.09 ERA as San Marin won the North Coast D3 title. She struck out 140 in 109 innings and also batted .419 with 26 RBIs in a 23-2 season.

P — Mikayla Bongi, East Union (Manteca), Sr.
Signed by New Mexico State, Bongi went 16-4 with a 0.87 ERA and 170 strikeouts in 121 innings in reaching the Sac-Joaquin D3 title game.



P — Tabitha Dyer, Newbury Park, Sr.
Dyer had back-to-back 20-win seasons for the Panthers, who qualified for the Southern Section D3 tournament. She finished with a 1.80 ERA and fanned 170 batters in 159 innings. She also batted .378 with 26 RBIs and has signed with Pennsylvania.

P — Madison Mendez, Santana (Santee), So.
Mendez finished 24-7 along with a 2.03 ERA in 213 innings pitched. She threw 29 complete games and seven shutouts. She also batted .350 with 14 doubles and eight homers as the Sultans won the San Diego Section D2 title.

P — Lindsey Walljasper, Sierra (Manteca), Jr.
Walljasper had one of the lowest ERAs in the country at 0.23. The Nebraska commit went 8-3 with 116 strikeouts in 60 innings. She also batted .406 with 15 RBIs in 13 games.

C — Mackenzie Bennett, Santana, Jr.
Bennett batted .519 with 52 base hits and 27 RBIs. She homered nine times also ripped 15 doubles as the Sultans won the San Diego Section D2 title.

C — Megan Bower, Miramonte (Orinda), Jr.
The Matadors won only four games, but Bower had one of the state's top batting averages at .679 and added 41 RBIs on 18 extra-base hits in 18 games. Her on-base percentage was .714 and she slugged 1.301.

C — Aurora Adams, Santiago (Garden Grove), Sr.
Adams, who has signed with Norte Dame de Namur, was another catcher with monster stats — 20 doubles, 55 RBIs, 35 runs, 51 hits and a .680 batting average. She finished the season with 10 hits in 11 at-bats and drove in eight runs.



C — Riley Siegel, Drake (San Anselmo), Sr.
Named the Marin Independent Journal's Player of the Year, Siegel batted .443 with seven home runs and 37 runs scored. She also walked 19 times and stole 11 bases. She has committed to UC Davis.

IF — Lou Allan, Oak Hills (Hesperia), Sr.
Signed with Michigan, Allan is a member of Team USA Juniors. She batted .644 with 47 hits, 35 RBIs and 35 runs. She homered 11 times and did not strike out. She had a .693 on-base percentage and slugged 1.260.

IF — Jordan Matthews, El Dorado (Placentia), Sr.
Matthews capped a strong career, batting .591 to go along with a team-best .655 on-base percentage and a gaudy 1.776 OPS. Twenty-one of Matthews' 39 hits went for extra-bases. She has signed with Florida.

IF — Hailee Rios, San Marcos (Santa Barbara), Sr.
Rios batted and pitched the Royals to the Southern Section D4 title game. She batted .500 with other team highs in hits (43) and RBIs (26). In the circle, she went 14-4 with 146 strikeouts and a 1.33 ERA in 99 innings. She has committed to Fresno State.

IF — Abby Sweet, Hart (Newhall), Sr.
A run-scoring machine, Hart scored two runs or more in 17 games and finished with 52 in 33 games. She batted .415 with 44 hits, but walked 17 times and was hit by a pitch 13 times and finished the season with an on-base percentage of .544. She has signed with Notre Dame.

IF — Hope Brandner, Vanden (Fairfield), Sr.
Signed by Oregon State, Brandner led the Vikings deep in the Sac-Joaquin Section D3 playoffs. She batted .588 and accounted for 72 runs (46 RBIs). She had 24 extra base hits.

IF — Isabel Rocco, Jurupa Hills (Fontana), So.
The standout corner had almost identical stats as a sophomore as she did as a freshman: .588 average, 41 runs, 57 hits, 50 RBIs, 28 extra base hits and a 1.082 slugging percent. The All-Southern Section selection infielder committed one error in 72 chances.



IF — Kiana Cisneros, Tesoro (Rancho Santa Margarita), Sr.
Though her team was 12-15, Cisneros hit .538, drove in 22, scored 26 and sparkled on defense. She was chosen to the Orange County Register's All-Area team. She has signed with Boston College.

IF — Aariyana Egan, Independence (Bakersfield), Jr.
Egan had 40 steals, batted .479 with 42 runs and 35 RBIs as Independence won the Central Section D3 title.

IF — Silent Rain Espinoza, Christian (El Cajon), Jr.
Rain had another big year with 62 hits, 64 runs, 34 RBIs, 19 doubles and nine homers. She batted .569, with a .647 on-base percentage and slugged 1.045. She also stole 15 bases as the Patriots went 26-9-1 and won the San Diego Section D3 title. She has committed to Washington.

IF — Bobbi Ann Pratt, Aquinas (San Bernardino), Fr.
Pratt batted .734 with 58 RBIs and scored 51 runs. She ended the regular season with six straight multi-hit games. Pratt had 20 extra base hits and a slugging percentage of 1.202.

IF — Spencer Hyosaka, Notre Dame, Sr.
A four-year starter for the Spirits, Hyosaka hit .430, leading the team in runs scored (34) and RBIs (27). A three-time member of the All-County team, Hyosaka packed a punch at the plate with 18 of her 43 hits going for extra bases and three home runs. IF — Linnah Rebolledo, Ramona (Riverside), Sr.
The Utah Valley University signee put up her best numbers of an impressive four-year prep career: .529 batting average, 55 hits, 49 RBIs, 43 runs, 15 doubles, 11 homers and nine walks. She also committed four errors in 120 fielding chances.

IF — Hannah Clavelle, Marysville, Jr.
Clavelle was named the Appeal-Democrat All-Area Player of the Year after batting .581 with seven home runs and 44 RBIs while leading the Indians to the Golden Empire League title and the Sac-Joaquin Section D4 semifinals.



IF — Hana Suppus, Piner (Santa Rosa), Jr.
Named to the San Francisco Chronicle first team after hitting .764 (42-for-55) with 13 doubles, nine home runs and 50 RBIs. She also picked up five wins and struck out 68 in 81 innings. Suppus had a base hit in every game and accounted for 55 percent of Piner's runs in 2017.

OF — Livy Schiele, Bishop's (La Jolla), Sr.
Signed by Auburn, the returning MaxPreps All-American hit in 38 straight games and had 15 multi-hit games. Schiele hit .533 with 34 RBIs and 29 of her 48 base hits went for extra bases. She scored 45 times, struck out once and added 18 stolen bases.

OF — Sammy Fabian, Glendale, Sr.
Big numbers once again by this multi-times MaxPreps honoree: .573 batting average, 47 hits , 36 runs, 21 steals in 25 games. In 90 career games for Glendale, Fabian collected 184 hits and batted .624. She had base hits in all but five games. She will play collegiately at UC Santa Barbara.

OF — Jaymi Steward, Redlands, Sr.
Bound for Cal State Northridge, Steward led the Terriers in several offensive categories: batting average (.583), home runs (11), extra-base hits (26), runs (45) and stolen bases (27), She was also an All-CIF D3 pick and drove in 34 runs.

OF — Alexis Erich, East Union, Sr.
Erich put up some of the best all-around numbers in the state when she hit .620, scored 39, knocked in 51 and belted 15 doubles and eight homers as East Union reached the Sac Joaquin Section D3 title game. Erich has signed with Liberty University.

OF — Jenessa Ullegue, Buena, Jr.
Ullegue homered 10 times, drove in 28 and finished hitting .462. She had a hit, scored run or drove in a run in all but one game this season. Buena did not lose and won the Southern Section D4 title. She also was 5-0 with a 0.89 ERA and struck out 63 in 49 innings. She has committed to San Jose State.

OF — Carmina Nicolas, High Tech SD (San Diego), Sr.
Nicolas runs — 35 steals — and scores — 40 times — while hitting .458 and getting on base .532 percent of the time. Heading to Stanford, Nicolas combined for 105 stolen bases in her junior and senior seasons. With Nicolas setting the table, High Tech won 25 times and reached the San Diego Section D3 finals.



OF — Kaitlyn Lim, Woodbridge (Irvine), So.
Named the Pacific Coast League's top player and the Irvine's World Player of the Year, Lim batted .528, scored 48 runs, homered eight times, stole 35 bases and knocked in 37 runs. She also walked 18 times to finish with a .600 on-base percentage. She hit 14 doubles and did not commit an error. She has committed to Providence University.

UTIL — Khenedi Johnson, King/Drew (Los Angeles), Jr.
Johnson put up huge numbers in leading the Golden Eagles to the Los Angeles Section D2 title: .684 batting average, 58 runs, 58 hits, 44 RBIs and 27 extra base hits. She also stole 26 bases and in winning 15 games, Johnson struck out 194 in 135 innings.

UTIL — Raegan Breedlove, Central Valley (Shasta Lake), Fr.
Another Oregon commit, Breedlove batted .500 with 10 homers and 44 RBI. She also struck out 301 in 160 innings in winning 17 games.
