Football Game Preview: Matanzas Pirates vs. Oviedo Lions

The Matanzas Pirates will challenge the Oviedo Lions at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Matanzas sitting on six straight victories and Oviedo on nine.

Matanzas is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Monday. Their defense stepped up to hand East River an 8-0 shutout. The Pirates' defense has been rock solid lately; the team hasn't given up a point in their last three matchups.

Meanwhile, Oviedo's rock-solid defense showed up for the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Lake Brantley with a sharp 20-0 win. Considering the Lions have won five contests by more than 19 points this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Oviedo's defense and their three sacks. In fact, those sacks all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut KIARA HERNANDEZ. She is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as she's now posted two or more in each of the last 18 games she's played dating back to last season.

Oviedo pushed their record up to 9-0 with the victory, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season. Those road wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 1.0 point on average over those games. As for Matanzas, their victory bumped their record up to 10-5.
