Soccer Game Preview: Katy Taylor vs. Tompkins

Katy Taylor is 0-9-1 against Tompkins since January of 2020 but things could change on Monday. The Katy Taylor Mustangs will face off against the Tompkins Falcons at 7:15 p.m. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Katy Taylor took a loss when they played away from home last Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. Their defense stepped up to hand Paetow a 6-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by four goals or more this season.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Friday Tompkins sidestepped Katy for a 3-2 win. Given the Falcons' advantage in MaxPreps' Texas soccer rankings (they are ranked 30th, while the Tigers are ranked 139th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Tompkins' victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-2-1. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 16 goals over those three games. As for Katy Taylor, they moved to 13-7-1 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Katy Taylor suffered a grim 3-0 defeat to Tompkins when the teams last played back in February. Can Katy Taylor avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
