Basketball Recap: South Mecklenburg Now 3-1 over Last Four Games

South Mecklenburg won the last time they faced Palisades, and Myles Howard did his part to make sure it happened again. The South Mecklenburg Sabres managed a 72-67 victory over the Palisades Pumas on Friday thanks in part to Howard, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 20 points in addition to six boards and five steals. What's more, he also racked up three blocks, the most he's had since back in November of 2023.

Palisades' loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tymon Simpkins, who went 6 for 12 on his way to 14 points in addition to five assists and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Jayen Reeves, who went 7 of 13 on his way to 17 points.

South Mecklenburg has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 64.3 points per game. As for Palisades, their defeat ended a five-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 8-7.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Mecklenburg will welcome Ardrey Kell at 7:30 p.m. on January 10th. As for Palisades, they will host Olympic at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Palisades is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 56.8 points per game this season.
