Basketball Recap: Sterlington Takes a Loss

Sterlington lost against Madison back in February of 2019 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Sterlington Panthers took a 63-51 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Madison Jaguars. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Sterlington still got an impressive performance from Cooper Nelson, who went 8 of 18 on his way to 20 points in addition to five boards and three steals. That was a full 39.2% of Sterlington's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Gaven Evans, who had 12 points.

Even though they lost, Sterlington was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in four consecutive contests.

Sterlington's defeat dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Madison, the win was the 13th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-2.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Sterlington will head out to challenge Franklin Parish at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Sterlington is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.5 points per game this season. As for Madison, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Lincoln Prep at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025.
