Central has gone a perfect 8-0 against Penn Cambria recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Wednesday. The Dragons will square off against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Central has four straight victories, Penn Cambria has three straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
The home team had won the previous five meetings between Central and Bald Eagle Area, and Central kept the tradition alive. The Dragons were the clear victors by a 10-3 margin over the Eagles on Tuesday. The result was nothing new for the Dragons, who have now won nine games by seven runs or more so far this season.
Mason Byler was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two doubles and two RBI. What's more, he posted two hits, the most he's had since back in April.
In other pitching news, Central got a great performance from Mason Sparks as he didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched.
Back at the plate, Jay Hoenstine was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Wyatt Dilling, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.
Somerset hit Penn Cambria with a seven-run third inning on Tuesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Panthers lost 15-4 to the Eagles.
Preston Farabaugh was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one run and one RBI. Caden Gibbons also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.
Penn Cambria's defeat dropped their record down to 8-5. As for Central, their win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 13-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Wednesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Central has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Penn Cambria struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 3.8 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Central took their victory against Penn Cambria when the teams last played back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 15-6 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
