Basketball Recap: West Warwick Falls Short Against Ranked Westerly

On Wednesday, West Warwick faced Westerly in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The West Warwick Wizards were beaten by the Westerly Bulldogs 68-25. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Wizards have suffered since December 21, 2023.

West Warwick lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Brea Lima, who posted eight points and three steals. Lima has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last six times she's played. Lex Foley was another key player, putting up seven points.

Westerly was led to victory by Ella Reyes and Kate Rafferty. Reyes went 7 for 11 on her way to 20 points along with seven rebounds and five steals, while Rafferty earned six points in addition to eight assists and seven steals. Another player making a difference was Juliana Voisnet, who put up seven points.

West Warwick has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-7 record this season. As for Westerly, they pushed their record up to 8-5 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

West Warwick wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 55-35 defeat against Moses Brown on the 24th. Westerly has also already played their next contest, a 50-11 win against Juanita Sanchez Complex on the 24th.
