Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Varina). They took their contest on Tuesday with ease, bagging a 90-25 win over the Mechanicsville Mustangs. Given the Blue Devils' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while the Mustangs are ranked 217th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Varina is also on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 7-2 record this season. As for Mechanicsville, they dropped their record down to 5-4 with the loss, which was their third straight at home.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Varina will square off against Highland Springs at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Highland Springs knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past six matches -- so hopefully Varina likes a good challenge. As for Mechanicsville, they will challenge Atlee at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Atlee's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five contests.
