Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Avonti Jennings and Amajyn Cannon Lead St. Edward's to Victory

St. Edward won the last time they faced Tradition Prep and things went their way on Friday too. The St. Edward's Pirates enjoyed a cozy 38-20 victory over the Tradition Prep Pirates. St. Edward's pushed the score to 35-13 by the end of the third, a deficit Tradition Prep cut but never quite recovered from.

St. Edward's was led to victory by Amajyn Cannon and Avonti Jennings. Cannon posted 12 points along with six assists and six rebounds, while Jennings dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten boards. The dominant performance also gave Cannon a new career-high in steals (six). Another player making a difference was Gabriella Collazo, who scored seven points in addition to eight boards and four steals.

St. Edward's smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 30 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

St. Edward's has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Tradition Prep, their loss was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-13.

St. Edward's didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 35-30 win against Atlantic Christian on the 25th. Tradition Prep has also already played their next match (against Calvary Chapel Academy), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing.
