2A District 8 recap Sept. 26, 2012

The biggest upset of the week belonged to Salina, who took down 174th ranked Ketchum, 26-20.

The Wildcats moved up to 184 from 231 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 2A District 8. A 26-20 win over the Warriors helped Salina improve its standing.

Quapaw's dynamic duo of Seth Brumley and Beau Kibel proved tough for Kansas to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Brumley threw for 174 yards and two touchdowns and Kibel had 93 yards receiving. Tyler Bacon helped Quapaw's passing attack out by catching six balls for 73 yards.

DC Chance was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 172 yards on seven carries as Commerce lost to the Comets. Teammate Parker Morgan added to the ground attack by rushing for 94 yards.

Quapaw's Brumley and Bacon have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Brumley has thrown for 839 yards this season, while Bacon, a 5-foot-9 receiver, has 35 catches for 551 yards. Morgan from the Tigers leads the league in rushing with 575 yards.

The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Commerce takes on Kansas. Steve Moss's team has allowed 55 points this season, while Eddie Barnwell's team has given up 36. The Tigers allowed 8 points last week as they beat Wyandotte.

The Wildcats were the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to third in 2A District 8. Earlier in the week, Salina triumphed over Ketchum 26-20.
