Softball Preview: Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers vs. Hopewell Vikings
The Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers will head out on the road to challenge the Hopewell Vikings at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
Our Lady of the Sacred Heart can't be to happy about their upcoming road contest considering what happened when they opened their season on the away from home on Friday. They took a 6-3 hit to the loss column at the hands of New Castle.
Meanwhile, Hopewell never let their opponents score on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 15-0 margin over Sto-Rox. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Hopewell considering their one-run performance the matchup before.
Alana Covalt and Kara Barkovich made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Covalt pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Barkovich pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. At the plate, Covalt went a perfect 3-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI, while Barkovich scored a run while going 1-for-2. What's more, Barkovich posted two RBI, the most she's had since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Victoria Mann was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Teagan Scully, who scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.
