After a string of four wins, the Bellevue East Chieftains's good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They lost to Norris on the road by a decisive 56-42 margin. While losing is never fun, Bellevue East can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 68th, while Norris is ranked sixth).
Despite the loss, Bellevue East still got an impressive performance from Jamyla Gilmore, who scored eight points along with two steals. TNiyah Wilson-Smith was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Norris to victory, but perhaps none more so than Grace Kohler, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kennedy Sullivan, who scored 11 points along with two steals.
Bellevue East's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-6. As for Norris, their victory was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-2.
Bellevue East won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lincoln Southwest at 3:00 p.m. on January 27th. Hopefully Lincoln Southwest focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Friday.
