Basketball Game Preview: Mauldin Mavericks vs. Cross Creek Razorbacks

The Mauldin Mavericks will take on the Cross Creek Razorbacks in a holiday battle at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

On Tuesday, everything came up roses for Mauldin against Easley as the team secured a 74-2 victory. The Mavericks have beaten the Green Wave the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Green Wave has come to flipping the script.

Mauldin's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from J'Dah Aiken, who shot 83% from the field to rack up 16 points and five steals. Those 16 points gave Aiken a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Zara Leamon, who went 8-for-10 en route to 17 points.

Mauldin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards every time they've taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, Cross Creek blew past Howard, posting a 57-18 win. Given the Razorbacks' advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while the Huskies are ranked 447th) , the win on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Mauldin's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Cross Creek, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
