Softball Recap: North Greene Spartans vs. Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers

North Greene was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Greenfield/Northwestern Tigers. The Spartans were not able to make up for their defeat to the Tigers from their previous meeting back in May of 2024.

Chelsey Casstleberry put in work while hitting and pitching. She pitched six innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Those hits marked the first that she allowed this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Casstleberry wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Larissa Heberling, who scored a run while going 2-for-3. Brooklyn Sharrow also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

North Greene's record now sits at 1-5. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, with the win, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 4-8.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. North Greene will host Father McGivney Catholic at 11:45 a.m. on Saturday. As for Greenfield/Northwestern, they will look to defend their home field on Monday against Routt Catholic at 4:30 p.m. The Tigers are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
