Soccer Game Preview: Classical vs. Cumberland + How To Watch

The Classical Purple will head out to take on the Cumberland Clippers at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Classical's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Classical managed to slip by East Providence the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Purple lost 3-0 to the Townies on Friday. While losing is never fun, Classical can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Rhode Island soccer rankings (they are ranked 26th, while East Providence are ranked fifth).

Meanwhile, Cumberland didn't have quite enough to beat Moses Brown on Friday and fell 3-2. Garrett Duquesnay was hit with a yellow card, which may have had some impact on his (and the team's) ability to make aggressive plays.

Davis Corvello and Lucas Balcarcel scored both of Cumberland's goals, bringing their combined season tally to nine goals.

Classical's loss dropped their record down to 3-6. As for Cumberland, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2-2.

Classical suffered a grim 5-1 defeat to Cumberland in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Purple avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
