Baseball Game Preview: Thoreau Hawks vs. Tohatchi Cougars

For the first time this season, Thoreau will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will challenge the Tohatchi Cougars at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Thoreau has given up an average of 16.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Thoreau's tournament run continued when they took on Wingate on Friday. Thoreau fell 11-6 to Wingate.

Meanwhile, Tohatchi came tearing into Friday's contest with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 9.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 12-3 margin over the Thunderbirds. The game was the first time the Cougars have beaten the Thunderbirds on their field since June 3, 2021.

The team relied heavily on Luke Joe, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Dennis Sam also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Tohatchi always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .528. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Thoreau's loss dropped their record down to 1-6. As for Tohatchi, their record now sits at 6-2.

Thoreau might still be hurting after the 17-7 defeat they got from Tohatchi when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Can Thoreau avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
