Softball Recap: Lovejoy Comes Up Short

Friday just wasn't the day for Lovejoy's offense. They fell just short of the Walnut Grove Wildcats by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The Leopards haven't had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Izzy Guarriello put in work no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over 6.1 innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with one stolen base.

Lovejoy's loss dropped their record down to 16-9. As for Walnut Grove, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Lovejoy will challenge rival McKinney North at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Walnut Grove is set to take on their familiar foe Sherman at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
