The Peyton Panthers are taking a road trip to face off against the Crowley County Chargers at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Peyton is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.7 runs per game this season.
While Peyton's victory against Simla wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Panthers skirted past the Cubs 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Panthers have posted since March 28, 2024.
Bryce Love spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up 17 Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Peyton's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Trenten Compton, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI. Zayden Ebbert was another, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Crowley County). Everything went their way against Hoehne on Saturday as they made off with a 20-5 win. Considering the Chargers have won five matches by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Anthoni Walter was a standout: he scored four runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-4. Those four runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jack King, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.
Crowley County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. They are 4-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Peyton pushed their record up to 10-1 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Crowley County, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Peyton has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .504. However, it's not like Crowley County struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Peyton skirted past Crowley County 4-2 in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
