Basketball Recap: Sawyer Walker's Big Game Can't Quite Lead South over Valley Center

South lost against Valley Center back in February and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The South Cougars fell just short of the Valley Center Hornets by a score of 51-48. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Cougars have suffered since January 19th.

South lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Sawyer Walker, who posted 12 points and five boards. That's the most rebounds Walker has posted since back in December of 2023. Another player making a difference was Kobie Henley, who earned ten points and eight rebounds.

Doc Needham went supernova for Valley Center, going 6 of 11 on his way to 15 points along with six assists and six steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Colby J Newton, who put up seven points in addition to six assists and five steals.

South's defeat dropped their record down to 2-3. As for Valley Center, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 4-0.

When South and Valley Center next hit the court, they'll be up against teams who recently just can't seem to lose. South will try to stop Derby's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Meanwhile, Valley Center will try to stop Salina Central's three-game winning streak when the meet at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
