Volleyball Game Preview: Spearfish Spartans vs. St. Thomas More Cavaliers

The Spearfish Spartans will head out to take on the St. Thomas More Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Spearfish is coming into the match hot, having won their last four games.

If Custer wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Spearfish, they should've done a better job of containing Faith Hoffman. The Spartans put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 3-0 victory on Thursday with plenty of help from Hoffman, who had 21 digs and one assist. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 10.6 digs per game.

Spearfish not only won, but also showed off some consistency: they kept Custer between 15 and 17 points across their sets. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-17, 25-15, 25-17.

Meanwhile, after a string of nine wins, St. Thomas More's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They fell 2-0 to MOC-Floyd Valley.

St. Thomas More's defeat dropped their record down to 16-4. As for Spearfish, their win bumped their record up to 12-5.

Spearfish took their victory against St. Thomas More when the teams last played back in October of 2024 by a conclusive 3-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
