Baseball Recap: Newton's Victory on Tuesday Extends Winning Streak to Four

Newton hadn't beaten Dieterich on the road since April 11, 2017 but that history sure didn't bother them on Tuesday. The Eagles walked away with an 8-4 victory over the Movin Maroons. The Eagles have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Movin Maroons, too.

Quincy Fulton was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. Newton is undefeated when Fulton posts two or more runs, but 5-9 otherwise.

The win was the fourth in a row for Newton, bringing their record up to 8-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Dieterich, they dropped their record down to 2-8 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home.

Newton and Dieterich could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Eagles will take on Mt. Carmel at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (316 vs. 119). Meanwhile, Dieterich (ranked 438th) will meet Teutopolis (ranked 18th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
