Baseball Game Preview: Beech Buccaneers vs. Clarksville Wildcats

The Beech Buccaneers will head out to square off against the Clarksville Wildcats at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Beech and Rossview meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Friday. The Buccaneers came up short against the Hawks, falling 23-11.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Clarksville took on Clarksville Academy on Friday. The Wildcats were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over the Cougars. The Wildcats might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 16 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Dawson Smith tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over five innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Clarksville got a massive performance out of Korbin Reynolds, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. The team also got some help courtesy of Kirk Weatherford, who went 2-for-4 with one home run and two runs.

Clarksville has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 13 of their last 14 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 24-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.6 runs over those games. As for Beech, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 17-14 record this season.

Everything went Beech's way against Clarksville in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Beech made off with a 7-0 victory. Do the Buccaneers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Wildcats turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
