Volleyball Recap: Claymont Comes Up Short

Claymont was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They came up short against the Tuscarawas Valley Trojans, falling 3-0. The Mustangs were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Trojans earlier this season, when they won 3-1.

While Claymont was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. The final score came out to 26-24, 25-19, 25-17.

Lilly Riker paced Claymont's offense, picking up 12 kills. Riker got some help from Jilli Poletti and her 13 assists. Brinly McMorrow and Elah Davis kept things locked in from the service line: the pair finished with four aces apiece.

Tuscarawas Valley was led to victory by Leah Howard and Addi Witham. Howard had 15 digs and three assists, while Witham had 11 digs and two aces. Howard is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

Claymont's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Tuscarawas Valley, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming contests. Claymont will face off against Sandy Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Tuscarawas Valley, they will square off against Canton South at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
