Softball Recap: Canby Drops Highest Score of Season Against Centennial

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Canby). They were the clear victors by a 24-3 margin over the Centennial Eagles on Friday. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Cougars with their most commanding win of the season.

Alli Hayzlett made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits (and not a single walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-6 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.

In other batting news, Natalie Kern was a standout: she went 4-for-5 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Vissers, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, five runs, and one RBI.

Canby was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Canby has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 7-6 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.0 runs over those games. As for Centennial, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 0-3.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Canby beat the Eagles by a score of 11-5 on Tuesday.
