Basketball Game Preview: Schaumburg Saxons vs. Proviso East Pirates

The Schaumburg Saxons will face off against the Proviso East Pirates at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Schaumburg is coming into the match on a six-game losing streak.

It's never fun to lose, and it's even less fun to lose 50-22, which was the final score in Schaumburg's tilt against Palatine on Thursday. While losing is never fun, the Saxons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 450th, while the Pirates are ranked 193rd).

Meanwhile, Proviso East beat Addison Trail 51-41 on Friday.

Proviso East's win came from a few key players Schaumburg will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Zulema Montoya, who posted 14 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. That's the most points she has posted since back in January of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Kimble, who scored eight points and five steals.

Proviso East smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive contests.

Proviso East is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 50.6 points per game. As for Schaumburg, their loss dropped their record down to 7-18.
