The Somerset Bulldogs will face off against the Cotulla Cowboys at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
Somerset is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Devine just ended the team's four-game winning streak on Thursday. They took an 11-8 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Warhorses.
Sophia Galvez was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She tossed five innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Galvez was even better at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Karlet Sanchez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-6 with one home run. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kourtney Rios, who went 2-for-5 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last matchup, Cotulla made sure to put some runs up on the board against Crystal City last Monday. The Cowboys were the clear victors by a 12-1 margin over the Javelinas. Considering the Cowboys have won eight contests by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.
The team relied heavily on Eloyandra Zertuche, who went 1-for-3 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Randi Garcia, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Cotulla is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Somerset, their loss dropped their record down to 14-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Somerset has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Cotulla struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Everything went Somerset's way against Cotulla in their previous matchup back in February, as Somerset made off with a 7-1 victory. Will the Bulldogs repeat their success, or do the Cowboys have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
