Softball Recap: River Valley Takes a Loss

River Valley had lost seven straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 2-8 to make it eight. They lost 7-1 to the Meigs Marauders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Raiders of the 4-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Meigs, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games.

For Meigs' part, Natalie Goode made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 16 over seven innings pitched. Goode has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Roush, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Alie Hysell was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. River Valley is set to challenge their familiar foe Wellston at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Meanwhile, Meigs will square off against rival Nelsonville-York at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
