Basketball Recap: Canon City Tigers vs. Mesa Ridge Grizzlies
Canon City lost against Mesa Ridge back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Canon City Tigers lost 67-45 to the Mesa Ridge Grizzlies. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 195th, while the Grizzlies are ranked 18th).

Despite the loss, Canon City still got an impressive performance from Brehner Jackson, who went 6 of 12 on his way to 17 points. Jackson continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Rowan Cooper also deserves some recognition as he grabbed his first steals of the season.
Leading Mesa Ridge to victory were Zander Iwanski and J'Marius Jones. Iwanski went 6 for 8 en route to 17 points and seven boards, while Jones went 8 of 11 to rack up 17 points and six assists. Thanks to that strong game, Iwanski now owns an excellent 46.7% shooting accuracy. Jaxon Auger was another key player, putting up ten points and seven rebounds.
Canon City's loss dropped their record down to 7-13. As for Mesa Ridge, the victory was the 16th in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 16-1.
Looking ahead, Canon City will venture away from home to face off against Widefield at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Mesa Ridge, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 54-51 win against Discovery Canyon on the 8th.
