Baseball Recap: Mt. Vernon Comes Up Short

Mt. Vernon extended their losing streak to 12 on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 1-12 in the process. They came up short against the North Posey Vikings, falling 7-1. The Wildcats were not able to make up for their defeat to the Vikings from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Mt. Vernon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Luke Weintraut, who went 2-for-4 with one run. Jack Campbell also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

As for North Posey, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Considering they have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On North Posey's side, Remington Johnson made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Johnson was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Colby Angel, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, one triple, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Kade Buecher, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Looking ahead, Mt. Vernon will head out on the road to take on Tell City at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for North Posey, they will welcome Evansville Central at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
