Preview: Ironwood Ridge Nighthawks vs. Youngker Roughriders
Ironwood Ridge has been on the road for two straight, but on Thursday they'll finally head home. They will take on the Youngker Roughriders at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Ironwood Ridge focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 last Monday.
Even though Cienega scored an imposing 55 points last Monday, Ironwood Ridge still came out on top. Ironwood Ridge walked away with a 64-55 win over Cienega. Winning is a bit easier when you outrebound your opponent 26 to 4 on the offensive boards, as Ironwood Ridge did.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ironwood Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaidyn Saucedo, who scored 17 points along with seven assists and seven rebounds. Saucedo has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. Myla Elslager was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and two steals.
Meanwhile, it was a hard-fought match, but Youngker had to settle for a 43-40 loss against Cactus Shadows on Thursday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Youngker in their matchups with Cactus Shadows: they've now lost four in a row.
Ironwood Ridge has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 15-11 record this season. As for Youngker, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-14.
