Baseball Recap: Washburn Comes Up Short

After flying high against Oliver Springs on Friday, Washburn came back down to earth. The Pirates lost 12-2 to the Fulton Falcons on Saturday. The Pirates were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Falcons apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in April of 2023.

Washburn saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Bryson Clay, who went 1-for-2 with two runs. Clay has become a key player for the Pirates: the team is 4-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 5-7-1 otherwise.

Washburn's loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-8-1. As for Fulton, they pushed their record up to 19-9-1 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Washburn will welcome Hancock County on Monday. The Pirates are facing the Indians at the right time seeing as the Indians are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Fulton, they will be playing at home against Apostolic Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
