Paxton has gone a perfect 4-0 against Baker recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Paxton Bobcats will welcome the Baker Gators at 6:30 p.m. After the two teams made easy work of their previous opponents, one won't be so lucky on Thursday.
Paxton took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Pleasant Home with a sharp 12-2 victory. The match marked the Bobcats' most dominant win of the season so far.
Trevor Varnum was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing Three bases. while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Asher Jones, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Paxton always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .536. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Baker came tearing into Monday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Hoboes 26-9. The Gators might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by ten runs or more this season.
Ty Fernandez made a big impact no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Fernandez was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-5.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maddox Smith, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with seven RBI, three runs, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to hits, as he's now got three or more in each of the last three games he's played. Landon Garner was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 4-for-4.
Paxton pushed their record up to 4-2 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for Baker, their win bumped their record up to 4-1.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Paxton has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.5 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Baker struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Paxton took their victory against Baker in their previous meeting back in April of 2022 by a conclusive 10-2. Does Paxton have another victory up their sleeve, or will Baker turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
