Basketball Recap: Belen Falls Despite Big Games from Brooke De Leon and Alyssa Trujillo

Belen was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were five points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 40-35 heartbreaker at the hands of the Shiprock Chieftains. The Eagles were probably out for revenge after losing 58-41 to them when the teams met back in December of 2016, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Belen's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Alyssa Trujillo, who posted nine points and three steals, and Brooke De Leon, who had eight points. Trujillo is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Dani Bob, who earned six points and five rebounds.

Belen's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Shiprock, they moved to 4-7 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Belen didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 54-40 win against Los Alamos on the 3rd. As for Shiprock, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next matchup, a 47-35 defeat against Piedra Vista on the 4th.
