Softball Game Preview: Metcalfe County Hornets vs. Warren Central Dragons

Metcalfe County and Warren Central are an even 3-3 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. Metcalfe County will be playing at home against Warren Central at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Metcalfe County will be strutting in after a win while Warren Central will be coming in after a defeat.

Metcalfe County made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Glasgow, but they still couldn't quite topple them. Metcalfe County was the clear victor by a 10-2 margin over Glasgow on Friday. The Hornets not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since April 20, 2024.

Harper Hurt spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks. What's more, she gave up only two walks, the fewest she's had since back in March of 2024.

At the plate, Emma Groce was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3. Those three hits gave her a new career-high. LeeElla Boles was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Groce wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Metcalfe County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Glasgow only managed six hits.

Meanwhile, Warren Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their tenth straight loss dating back to last season. They lost 13-0 to Todd County Central. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Dragons' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Metcalfe County has started the season off flawlessly and has a 2-0 record to show for it. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs this season. As for Warren Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-5.
