Softball Recap: Niles West Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Niles West, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Lincoln Park Lions on Thursday as they made off with a 9-0 win. With that victory, the Wolves brought their scoring average up to 6.5 runs per game.

The result came thanks to Lexi Kuffel's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up seven Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Cheyenne Alameda, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, four RBI, and one stolen base. Those triples marked the first that she hit this season. Another player making a difference was Mia Mendoza, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Alameda wasn't the only one making solid contact: Niles West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lincoln Park only managed five hits.

The win got Niles West back to even at 2-2. As for Lincoln Park, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, Niles West will host Glenbrook North at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. As for Lincoln Park, they will take on Maine East at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Blue Demons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.6 runs per game on average), something the Lions will no doubt try to take advantage of.
