Recap: Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders vs. Otay Ranch Mustangs
The Mater Dei Catholic Crusaders were the 74-65 winner over the Otay Ranch Mustangs when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Mater Dei Catholic took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of Otay Ranch. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mater Dei Catholic came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 205th, while Otay Ranch is ranked 439th).
When it comes to explaining why Mater Dei Catholic lost on Wednesday, one person who can't be blamed is Maseyo Elliott. Despite the final result, he scored 16 points along with two steals. Elliott's trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for four games straight. Another player making a difference was Sebastian Wiles, who scored ten points.
Adam Delacruz was his usual excellent self, scoring 26 points along with seven rebounds and two steals for Otay Ranch. Fabian Resler was another key contributor, scoring three points along with eight assists and three steals.
Mater Dei Catholic's defeat was their sixth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 12-11. As for Otay Ranch, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games, which provided a massive bump to their 8-16 record this season.
Mater Dei Catholic will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Bonita Vista at 6:30 p.m. on January 26th. As for Otay Ranch, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Montgomery at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. Montgomery is coming into the contest hot, having won their last seven games.
