The Plano West Wolves will head out on the road to challenge the McKinney Lions at 7:15 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Plano West is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They won by a run and slipped past Plano 17-16. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Wolves.
Brooke Reasoner and Elyse Mikes did most of the damage at the plate: Reasoner got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI, while Mikes went 4-for-5 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most runs Mikes has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrea Carrillo, who scored a run while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances.
Plano West always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .558. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
McKinney got their first taste of in-conference action this week and they started things off strong. They had just enough and edged out Princeton 11-9.
Adyson Gaddis was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 13 batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off seven hits (and only one walk). Gaddis was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-6 with three runs, three doubles, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kady Huggins, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. Veronica Molina also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
McKinney's win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-14-1. Even worse, they were so close so many times: the defeats came by an average of only 4.75 runs. As for Plano West, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Plano West took their victory against McKinney in their previous matchup back in February of 2024 by a conclusive 15-4. Will Plano West repeat their success, or does McKinney have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
