Softball Game Preview: Reardan Screaming Eagles vs. Newport Grizzlies

For the second straight game, Reardan will face off against Newport. The Screaming Eagles are taking a road trip to take on the Grizzlies at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. Reardan has given up an average of 13.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Reardan's offense. They lost 14-0 to Newport on Tuesday. The Screaming Eagles have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

For Newport's part, Lili Hall made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. Hall has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, earning two runs and three stolen bases.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Bella Boyd, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Grace Parry, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

Newport kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in seven consecutive matches.

Newport's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-5. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 9.2 runs. As for Reardan, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-8.
