Whittier hasn't had much luck against La Serna recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Whittier Cardinals will face off against the La Serna Lancers at 3:15 p.m. Whittier is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

It was a proper cat-fight when Whittier faced off against San Jacinto last Saturday. Whittier came out on top in a nail-biter against San Jacinto, sneaking past 5-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Cardinals have posted since April 26, 2024.

Carl Collins made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ryan Jimenez, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.

Meanwhile, La Serna waltzed into their matchup on Tuesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They had just enough and edged out the Eagles 7-5.

Logan Thomas looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

On the hitting side, Max Rodriguez was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Luther Sullens, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.

Whittier is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games. La Serna now has a winning record of 5-4.

Whittier suffered a grim 10-3 defeat to La Serna in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Whittier avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
