Alvord won the last time they faced Tom Bean and Zane Fuentes did his part to make sure it happened again. The Bulldogs walked away with a 49-42 win over the Tomcats on Friday thanks in part to Fuentes, who rushed for 349 yards and five TDs while picking up 8.1 yards per carry. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 111.3 rushing yards per game.

One reason for the win was Alvord's imposing defensive line, which managed to get into the backfield for four sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Zane Smith and Jaxan Simmons, who racked up all four sacks between them. Simmons has become a key player for Alvord: the team is undefeated when he posts at least one sack, but 1-2 otherwise.

Several Tomcats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Donnie Hooten, who threw for 432 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 90.2% of his passes, and also punched in two scores on the ground. What's more, he's the game marked his fourth straight with at least 316. 208 of Hooten's passing yards were hauled in by Brayden Bomar, who also brought in a receiving touchdown.

Alvord is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 47.6 points over those games. Having lost for the first time this season, Tom Bean fell to 6-1.

Looking ahead, Alvord will venture away from home to face off against Whitewright at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bulldogs will be up against the Tigers' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance. As for Tom Bean, they will host Wolfe City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Tomcats will need to watch out since the Wolves have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games.
