Football Recap: Hokes Bluff Takes a Loss

Hokes Bluff extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-4. They were a single point away from ending the streak, but they lost a 24-23 heartbreaker at the hands of the Ashville Bulldogs. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bulldogs apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Hokes Bluff lost, don't look at Bryce Whitaker. Despite the final result, he rushed for 257 yards while picking up 11.7 yards per carry. Whitaker's longest rush was for an incredible 70 yards.

As for Ashville, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 27.8 points over those games.

A big part of Ashville's win came down to the chemistry between Jb Potter and his top target Jamon Williams. Potter rushed for 145 yards and one score on only 14 carries while Williams rushed for 143 yards and one TD on only 14 carries. With that strong performance, Potter is now averaging an impressive 104.2 rushing yards per game.

Hokes Bluff has already played their next contest, a 21-14 defeat against Oneonta on the 24th. As for Ashville, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next matchup, a 42-18 loss against Cherokee County on the 24th.
