Softball Recap: Gainesville Makes It Five in a Row at Home

With a playoff win on the line, Gainesville rose to the challenge on Thursday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Belleview Rattlers a 3-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Hurricanes in their matchups with the Rattlers: they've now won three in a row.

McKenna O'Sullivan made a big impact no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April.

O'Sullivan wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Lockerman, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Gainesville's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 16-7. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Belleview, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-10.

Looking ahead, Gainesville will be playing in front of their home fans against Springstead at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Hurricanes 4, the Eagles 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned. Belleview does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
