Greenville piles up the points against Southwestern

The Greenville Comets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won six matchups by 23 points or more this season. They took their contest on the road on Thursday with ease, bagging a 51-14 win over Southwestern. Given Greenville's advantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 156th, while Southwestern is ranked 542nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Greenville found their leader in underclassman Emma Veith, who scored 17 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Veith has scored at least 25% of Greenville's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Potthast, who scored 11 points.

Greenville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Southwestern, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-12.

Greenville will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Breese Central at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. As for Southwestern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Roxana at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
