Baseball Recap: Mesa Vista Comes Up Short

Mesa Vista had lost seven straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped down to 2-11 to make it eight. They fell 14-11 to the Penasco Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent loss being a 15-8 defeat on Tuesday.

A.J. Sandoval made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Samuel Epling, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

As for Penasco, with the win, they broke their four-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-13. With that victory, they brought their scoring average up to 6.2 runs per game.

On Penasco's side, Andrew Archuleta was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Archuleta is becoming a predictor of the Panthers' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-1 (and 3-12 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Christopher Lopez, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Penasco beat Mesa Vista by a score of 15-8 later that day.
