It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Scripps Ranch Falcons challenge Canyon Crest Academy Ravens at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the game red-hot, with Scripps Ranch sitting on three straight victories and Canyon Crest Academy on five.
Scripps Ranch proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 14) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Westview, sneaking past 7-6.
Kenzie Johnson looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up three earned runs off only two hits.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Eme Ledbetter, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs. That home run marked the first that she launched this season. Brooke Griffin was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple and one run.
Meanwhile, Canyon Crest Academy got the win against Liberty Charter on Wednesday by a conclusive 11-1. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Ravens this season.
Canyon Crest Academy let Alexis McNamee and Addison Okerberg run wild. McNamee scored a run while going 2-for-3, while Okerberg scored a run while going 1-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Okerberg a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Scarlett Dunning, who scored a run while going 1-for-2.
Canyon Crest Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Liberty Charter only managed four hits.
Canyon Crest Academy's win bumped their record up to 8-5-1. As for Scripps Ranch, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
Friday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Scripps Ranch hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .320. However, it's not like Canyon Crest Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .330. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
