Baseball Game Preview: St. Helena Saints vs. Cloverdale Eagles

St. Helena has gone 9-1 against Cloverdale recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. St. Helena will look to defend their home field against Cloverdale at 4:00 p.m. The timing is sure in St. Helena's favor as the team sits on six straight wins at home while Cloverdale has been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road dating back to last season.

St. Helena easily dispatched Middletown on Tuesday, but unfortunately both the margin and the ultimate result were a different story in this one. St. Helena fell just short of Clear Lake by a score of 6-4 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Saints have suffered against the Cardinals since April 16, 2021.

St. Helena saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Charlie Blaum, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI. Those two hits gave Blaum a new career-high. Another was Sam Beck, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in two of his five plate appearances.

Meanwhile, Cloverdale might've scored the first runs on Monday, but it was Santa Rosa who claimed the real prize. Cloverdale lost 21-8 to Santa Rosa. While the Eagles didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Panthers 4-0 in the first period.

Coby Haug made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and scored three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Damian Guerrero was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Cloverdale now has a losing record of 2-3. As for St. Helena, their loss dropped their record down to 9-3.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. St. Helena has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.5 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Cloverdale struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7.2 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

St. Helena beat Cloverdale 8-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will St. Helena repeat their success, or does Cloverdale has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
