Volleyball Recap: Brazoswood Takes a Loss

Brazoswood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They lost 3-0 to the Clear Creek Wildcats. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Buccaneers of the 3-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in October of 2024.

Brazoswood took the loss but they managed to make steady progress, increasing their score in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-8, 25-14, 25-15.

Their offense was headlined by Alexis Sandoval and Grace Atkins, who picked up four kills apiece. They got some help from Rylee Skinner and her seven assists. Sandoval was also a major player on defense: she and Reece Perk shared the team lead in blocks, finishing with two each.

Clear Creek was led to victory by Elissa James and Tristen Golden. James had 12 digs and three assists, while Golden had seven digs and one assist. James is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 12 or more in each of the last eight games she's played.

Brazoswood's defeat dropped their record down to 8-22. As for Clear Creek, their win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-15.

Brazoswood and Clear Creek could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings. The Buccaneers will take on Clear Brook at 6:00 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (855 vs. 359). Meanwhile, Clear Creek (ranked 155th) will meet Clear Springs (ranked 35th) at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
