Basketball Recap: South Gray's Run of Ten Straight Wins Now Over

It was a good run, but South Gray unfortunately witnessed the end of their ten-game winning streak dating back to last season on Saturday. They fell just short of the Macksville Mustangs by a score of 61-58. The Rebels were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mustangs apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.

Macksville was led to victory by Diego Esparza and Hector Gomez. Esparza posted 27 points and eight rebounds, while Gomez put up 17 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. The matchup was Esparza's 12th in a row with at least ten points. Kendall Grippin was another key player, putting up nine points.

Having lost for the first time this season, South Gray fell to 3-1. As for Macksville, the victory made it two in a row for them and also bumps their season record up to 3-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. South Gray will take on Bucklin in a holiday battle at at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. South Gray knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four games -- so hopefully Bucklin likes a good challenge. As for Macksville, they will venture away from home to face off against Central Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Macksville is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 68 points per game this season.
