Baseball Game Preview: Helix Highlanders vs. El Capitan Vaqueros

For the second straight game, Helix will face off against El Capitan. The Highlanders will look to defend their home field on Thursday against the Vaqueros at 4:00 p.m. Helix's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so El Capitan's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Tuesday, Helix needed a bit of extra time to put away El Capitan. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Vaqueros 3-1. The Highlanders haven't had any issues with the Vaqueros recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.

Maddox Richardson tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits over 5.2 innings pitched. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Helix is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-9 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Alex Carbajal, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jake Johnson, who went 3-for-5 with two doubles and one run.

El Capitan is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10. As for Helix, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-2 and their overall record up to 9-9.
